Penguin Ireland And The RTÉ Guide Launches Short Story Competition

Penguin Ireland LogoThe winners of a new short story competition will be published in the RTÉ Guide and attend a writers’ workshop hosted by Penguin Ireland and Dublin City Libraries.

The workshop will feature panels and discussion with Patricia Deevy (Editorial Director, Penguin Ireland), Maria Dickenson (Head Buyer, Easons) and Cliona Lewis (Publicity Director, Penguin Ireland) along with authors Sinead Moriarty, Niamh Greene and Tara Heavey.

Entries must not have been previously published or broadcast and be 1,500 words or less. Entries can be sent to The Books Competition, RTÉ Guide, RTÉ, Donnybrook, Dublin 4. The closing date is Friday, 6th August.

The competition is being run by Penguin Ireland and RTÉ.

WH Smith Hire Dedicated Irish Buyer

WH Smith LogoThe Bookseller reports that 20% of the books in WH Smits’ new terminal two stores will be Irish.

The company has also hired Alison Scanlon as a dedicated Irish buyer.

THe Bookseller also features a quote from Dermot O’Dwyer, m.d. of Gill & Macmillan:

“The market is different to the UK and there’s generally more interest in Irish books. Easons is a dominant player so the arrival of someone else is a good thing providing the economy’s recovery continues.”
