Tesco Ireland Is Selling Kindle In Store
If you find this interesting, you may enjoy our latest post about ebooks & ereaders in Ireland useful too.
Tesco Ireland is selling Amazon’s Kindle reader in store.
The store is offering both the basic fourth generation Kindle wi-fi for €115 and the third generation Kindle keyboard with 3G or €195.
The prices are only slightly more expensive than purchasing the device from the US Kindle store (as all Irish purchases must).
The Kindle units are for sale in standalone display bins along with device covers.

Wow. Right next to Legos. Not the product placement I would have expected… but awesome nonetheless.
Cheaper in PC World and Currys in Ireland! €109 and €179
So it is!
i need to buy a kindle for my daughter for xmas what is the best deal in ireland or should i go to the north of ireland and buy it
Probably as easy to get it here, though the prices of kindle ebooks, if you have a uk based amazon account, are cheaper by a little bit.
Looks like PC World Or Currys are the best!
Beware; if you buy a kindle in the uk you may have a problem registering the device with an Irish e-mail address. It is not possible to ship a kindle from amazon.co.uk to Ireland and they refer you to amazon.com. Also, if you buy from amazon.com, by the time you pay for shipping and import duty, it’s about $157, not $109… The $79 offer is available to US customers only.
This is all totally true,
Amazon.co.uk supplies only to the UK.
After tax and shipping the Amazon.com price is about $5-$10 more than if you bought the Kindle in store in PCWorld, Currys or Tesco!
I bought a kindle from .co.uk and had it delivered to my daughter in Birmingham. Have had no problem registering it in Ireland and have downloaded loads of books through my irish account mastercard.
pc world and currys are selling it for 109+179
Yup, noted above and that they were for sale in previous articles too.
could some 1 help me.im intrested in buying a kindle, but dont no much about them.is everything in the box.when u buy it.and is it expensive to down load books, sorry if i sound stupit.
MAry,
Yes, everything you need is in the box on purchase. if you buy the wi-fi edition then you will need a wi-fi network or a computer connected to the web to add new books to the device. There are lots of free or cheap books on the Kindle store. You will be able to buy new releases by major authors from around $12 up. Sometimes cheaper but mostly not.

I have book vouchers to spend (a lot) and was hoping to buy a kindle with them, firstly is this possible and secondly does anyone know of any bookshops selling the kindle? I believe hodges and figgis will start in the autumn but haven’t come across any others yet.

Rosarie,
Yes, so long as you give them access to your Kindle there is no reason why this couldn’t be done!

Hi.
I like to read in bed but the light drives my husband nuts. Could you recommend an e- reader that has it’s own back light? I see ads for “Nook” now but I’ve been told the image isn’t as clear as a Kindle plus it’s heavier.. if Kindle is better then which one? Touch; Paperwhite; Fire?
The two best for an Irish person are the Kindle Paperwhite and the Kobo Glo. I say this because they have a full book store behind them and ease of use for them too. Both also offer iPhone and Android!
Is it possible to read russian language books, magazines, etc on Kindle?
I honestly do not know. You’d have to go to the page for Kindle and check their support details. I suspect they may have added Russian by now!

I want to give my sister a Kindle for Christmas. She lives in Dublin. Could I buy a Kindle here in the US and bring it to Ireland? What are the problems associated with this? Could I use an international converter to charge it?
Caroline,
You could do this, so long as she registers the kindle in Ireland it should be okay. It might be easier though to order her the kindle via the Amazon.com site from the specific international page for the device you want.

Thanks Eoin. Will she be able to download The Sunday Times?
I don’t know to be honest, but if they offer a kindle service, then she should be able to!
Where can u buy a kindle in Roscommon Ireland
You could order one online. You could try your closest Tesco or you could try your closest PC World.
does tesco in dublin have the paperwhite touch screen?
if i buy from amazon do i need a converter?
urgent

I honestly don’t know bernie, you’d have to call Tesco to check. PCWorld do though: http://www.pcworld.ie/Product/KINDLE-Paperwhite-eReader-Black/313426/2.9
You don’t need a converter all you need is a usb power cable that should come with the device. That charges the device from a computer or laptop!
