Walker Books To Distribute Little Island Titles

Little Island, the children’s and young adult publisher founded by former Irish Children’s Laureate Siobhán Parkinson, has agreed a distribution deal with Walker Books UK.

The deal, which comes into force in early 2013 covers both the UK and global export territories.

Parkinson said ‘We are thrilled with this partnership, which opens up a huge market for us. The people at Walker have been incredibly welcoming and generous with their advice and expertise, and we look forward to working with them into the future.’

According to Walker the move, ‘extends and cements a strong commitment to Irish talent and the Irish market for Walker Books, which already has an established relationship with a vast pool of talented Irish authors and illustrators. This is also a way for a fantastic small publisher, Little Island, to widen its reach into all English language territories globally.’

Walker Books announced last week that they were launching an Irish language imprint, Walker Éireann.

Fiction publisher at walker, Gill Evans, said this of the deal, ‘I’m full of admiration for the excellence of the Little Island list and the editorial team who created it. It’s a pleasure to be involved with them and bring these books to a wider readership.’

Founded with a mandate to publish both Irish writers and international fiction in translation, Little Island has published and forthcoming titles by authors from Finland, Sweden, Germany, Austria and Brazil. It receives funding from the Arts Council.

Disclaimer, prior to its emergence as an independent entity, Little Island began its life as part of New Island, the company for which IPN Editor, Eoin Purcell, acts as commissioning editor.
