Don’t get too excited about all the Apple iBooks self publishing news. As soon as you publish you create and publish your book through Apple’s “iBooks Author” you give up your rights to publish that book through any of the wide variety of popular eBook publishers. I don’t work for this company but my personal suggestion would be to use Smashwords.com. If anyone has tried going through the process of getting an ebook published and up for sale on more then one site then you know that each site has a different system and different requirements that make the entire process long and frustrating for each of them. Smashwords.com helps you easily get your ebook properly formatted and submitted to a ton of the major ebook retailers including: Apple iBookstore, Barnes & Noble, Sony, Kobo and the Diesel eBook Store to name a few. They also sell your ebooks on their own online store and make your ebook available for sale in just about every format that exists and to top it off they do all of that for free!

Hi there.
I along with friend of mine from Sweden are working on a childrens book. I am doing the writing and some of the illustrations and Caroline is doing the remainer of the illustrations as she is a great artist.

The story is basically one about a family of fairies, and trolls , living in rural Sweden, next to a tree which has a door that they sometimes go through and are transported to different counteries.
our aim is create a really colourful book, which is entertaining , funny and educational.
I am travelling to Sweden in Feb to have the illustrations finished by caroline.

Is there an opening for this type of childrens book, would your advice be for us to publish it, or what do you think should be our next step? Is there a competition that we can enter with it?

any advice would be really appreciated.

Interesting point, and one I'd be inclined to agree with.

As a reader, I tend to actively avoid titles priced at 99c - such a low price implies that even the author doesn't place much value on the work.

There's a strong buzz on the streets about ereaders down country here in the sunny South-East. I found a kindle in my wife's wardrobe (never grown out of searching for Santy), hope it's for me! I've been reading ebooks on my laptop until now.
As an independent ebook author with titles on amazon, I've become aware of some great online reading communities such as Goodreads and LibraryThing. They're free and have a lot of product reviews that aren't on Amazon. Readers can interact with other readers and authors, and there are some groups specifically for Irish readers.
Kindle file format is also available from smashwords.com by the way.
