Irish Top Ten Week Ending 02/07/2011

Not a terrible week for book sales, at least in the top ten. There was a slight recovery on last week and the average sale per title is up a little because of that. It’s also nice to see there are still four Irish authors in the top ten.

Fiction is still holding off non-fiction almost entirely. Kate McCann’s book is falling down the list and when it drops out of the top ten, I wonder will it be replaced by fiction or non-fiction, I expect fiction.

1: All for You, Sheila O’Flanagan, 1486
2: Broken, Karin Slaughter, 1,240
3: The Midwife’s Confession, Diane Chamberlain, 1,140
4: Something from Tiffany’s, Melissa Hill, 1,100
5: Minding Frankie, Maeve Binchy, 1,073
6: Harvesting The Heart, Jodi Picoult, 974
7: Madeleine: Our Daughter’s Disappearance and the Continuing Search for Her, Kate McCann, 931

9: Let the Great World Spin, Colum McCann, 878
10: The Confession, John Grisham, 826

Irish Top Ten Week Ending 25/06/2011

After a few weeks where sales seemed to be recovering for the top ten, this week dealt a huge blow with an over 15% drop in sales by volume. That nonetheless offered some bright points as Irish authors still held 4 of the top ten spots in the chart but the trend is disappointing.

The array of fiction is again broad, everything from commercial women’s fiction to children’s fiction with crime, literary and fantasy thrown into the mix. The strength of fiction might be more easily understood as the weakness of non-fiction in the first half of 2011 however, especially when the sales figures are so anemic.

All the same it is nice to see Maeve Binchy (why not listen to her talk about Minding Frankie here) in the number one spot.

1: Minding Frankie, Maeve Binchy, 1,573

Irish Top Ten Week Ending 18/06/2011

With this top ten analysis, IPN is finally up to date with the Irish Top Ten!

If last week was a great base, then this week’s top ten was a nice step forward. Across the board titles did better, reflected in the average top ten unit sales of 1,204. The top ten also got a fresh influx of titles too, with Maeve Binchy, Harlan Coben, Ross O’Carroll-Kelly and James Patterson (with a new title) making the list this week.

That influx brought a doubling of the Irish Authors in the top ten and also washed the second non-fiction title out of the mix, leaving the resilient Kate McCann’s title as the only non-fiction title in the top ten.

1: Something from Tiffany’s, Melissa Hill, 1,729
2: The Confession, John Grisham, 1,524
3: Madeleine: Our Daughter’s Disappearance and the Continuing Search for Her, Kate McCann, 1,361

Irish Top Ten Week Ending 23/04/2011

A decent week for the top ten showing an increase on last week and a strong performance by some well-established Irish authors.

Michael Connelly, one of those authors who rarely gets mentioned in Irish books pages but who sells VERY well, leaps ahead of Joseph O’Connor’s Ghost Light for the first spot.

Sheila O’Flanagan, Patricia Scanlan and Claudia Carroll round out the top five with five other fiction titles making the ten. It seems remarkable that fiction dominates so thoroughly, but the closest non-fiction title to the top ten is Philomena Lynott’s My Boy.

1: The Fifth Witness, Michael Connolly, 1,494
2: Ghost Light, Joseph O’Connor, 1,433
3: Stand by Me, Sheila O’Flanagan, 1,325
4: Love and Marriage, Patricia Scanlan, 1,071

Irish Top Ten Week Ending 16/04/2011

A disappointing top ten this week, though Ghost Light is doing fairly well, no doubt boosted by the ongoing One City One Book campaign. Mary McEvoy’s memoir, dealing with her battle with depression, is the sole non-fiction title in the top ten this week though Philomena Lynott’s book on her son was pushed just outside to number 11.

1: Ghost Light, Joseph O’Connor, 1,644

Irish Top Ten Week Ending 11/09/2010

These figures were a little delayed but make for interesting reading.

Tony Blair continues to shine through with an exceptional week. However, the story must be the overall strength of the top ten. Driven by two newish releases in fiction, Sheila O’Flanagan’s Stand By Me and Cecelia Ahern‘s The Book Of Tomorrow and the continuing impressive performance of Emma Donoghue‘s Room. But overall, it was a solid week with each of the top ten titles selling in excess of 1,000 units.

While only three Irish authors made the top ten, all were in the top five and Derek Landy fell just outside the top sitting very nicely at 11 with some 1,254 sales.

1: A Journey, Tony Blair, 2,989
2: Room, Emma Donoghue, 2,951

The Short Second Life Of Bree TannerStephanie Meyer’s sales last week were nicely impressive and were enough to overtake Joseph O’Connor and push him into second place.  A good showing for Irish authors and still that strange chunk of the top ten made up of a certain Swedish author!

2: Ghost Light, Joseph O’Connor, 2,385
3: The Help, Kathryn Stockett, 1,676
